About Pastor Chuck Carlson

Rev. Chuck Carlson

Pastor Chuck Carlson leads an evangelical fellowship and weekly chapel service for the surfers, neighbors, and visitors in Seal Beach and the surrounding community. All are invited to gather together Sunday mornings on the sand of Seal Beach, north of the pier for a time of worship, speaking and hearing the Word, and confessing our burdens and needs with one another before our Creator.

Chuck Carlson was born and raised in Inglewood, CA. Prior to the ministry, he was a college professor and a college/high school football and basketball coach. He surfed for most of his life before being injured in 1992; he has played professional sports and sang with the 60’s folk group The Take Five.

He graduated from Morningside High School and attended California Lutheran Bible School completing a non-degree program. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from CSULB and a Master’s of Divinity from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. He was licensed in the (ALC) American Lutheran Church in 1974 and ordained in the (ELCA) Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 1988. He has been a teacher, youth director/pastor and senior pastor during the last 39 years. He has played key roles in both the ALC and ELCA in youth ministry and worship proclaiming the “Good News” of the transforming power of the Spirit-filled life.

Pastor Chuck writes liturgies and music, sings and plays guitar. He is talented in developing meaningful worship services for a myriad of settings. He has a love and excitement for teaching youth and adults, and has written and designed several classes including confirmation studies, small-group Bible studies, Lenten plays, and is currently writing a fictional adult/children Christmas book and a series of children books.

Chuck Carlson’s family includes his wife Lin, and three wonderful grown children, their spouses, three grandsons and a granddaughter.

Though an injury in 1992 left Chuck with some disabilities he is still eager to lead and teach and discover new ways to be used of God. He’s available as a chapel speaker, Bible study and worship leader, and to conduct retreats, weddings, funerals, and evangelism consultation.

Please feel free to contact Pastor Chuck at any time on our “Contact Page.” He is available for all of your pastoral needs.  A short personal bio on Chuck Carlson, titled “Surfing the Lord” can be read on a local surf community site, Tribal Surf.
